Target Marketing Systems Berkeley Computer Desk Review

(More customer reviews)I say "savvy" in the title really only because I was hard pressed to find another 's' word that describes this desk. But the first two words really are accurate. While I don't use it as a computer desk, it has proved to be well put together and easy to clean. In my line of work, all sorts of grime gets onto my work surfaces. Add some feathers and its a complete disaster. So I'm not sure what it's made out of, but this desk is really easy to clean off with a little vinegar. It also does not wobble at all, or sway like you are trying to work on the back of an elephant. Or something.
The one complaint I have is the difficulty I had in putting it together. The packaging was great and everything, but it took forever to figure out how to install the roller tracks for the keyboard drawer. This was especially disconcerting because I was being timed on how quickly and accurately I could assemble the desk. As a hint to those reading, the two sections come apart when one applies a slight pressure to the small plastic tab at the end.
I ended up not using the wheels since I would not need to move the desk around, but discovered that my horribly bloated legs would not fit underneath. So it required a couple inches of raising.
The upshot: A good desk for the price. Will serve my grimy, feathery work environment for years to come.

(More customer reviews)The recipient of the desk was my granddaughter who lives in Cincinnati while I reside in Florida. Nina asked me to order the desk for her while we visited on our way to Florida from New York via Cincinnati. The locker desk was quite a bit more expensive than the one we bought her sister at Ikea the year before. For more than $300 in total, the desk arrived unassembled, and one of the drawers doesn't quite fit properly. I'm hearing this bad news long distance because the desk took weeks to arrive rather than the 3 days I believe was the timeframe for delivery mentioned on the site. After spending hours putting this desk together my daughter wouldn't want to spend more of her valuable time disassembling and shipping the desk back, and I'm not even sure what her options are. All in all this was a bad experience and would not be repeated. Better to buy furniture that requires assembly at a local store where there is the option to return the item if it is defective. I'm sure this is not the kind of review you will print.

(More customer reviews)I remodled a home office and purchased several pieces of this "do it yourself" furniture. This piece was by far the biggest disappointment.
Pros - thick (1.5" !) top and sides, nice width so your legs don't bang into the drawers, drawers can be mounted to either side. The color is nice, desk itself seems heavy & sturdy.
Cons - the cheap vinyl finish! For a desk this sturdy, the finish is absolutely feeble. Will flake & scratch quite easily. Drawers are also extremely flimsy and the top drawer is too shallow to fit a CD or DVD, which is annoying. Also, because it's heavy and tall, it is very wobbly on plush carpet. Won't be as much of a factor on hardwood floors. Plus, at 30" high, it's not ideal for a computer desk unless you have a raised chair or are very tall.
I was so disappointed, I almost got rid of this desk immediately. As I mentioned, I purchased other pieces of furniture of this caliber from other manufacturers and they were much nicer than this. Expensive return costs prevented me from returning the desk so I ended up working around the problems (by screwing the desk to the wall for stability & using a marker & wood glue to patch the marred finish). Would not buy again, would not recommend to anyone that spends a lot of time at their desk. The finish will not stand up long-term.
