(More customer reviews)The desk arrived very well packaged. The left and right sides are separate and are screwed together on each side of the drawer. The desktop is then screwed into place. The piece is substantial, the finish beautiful, though a sticker was placed on the finish that has taken some time to remove. I think it was meant to go underneath the cabinet and placed on the cabinet itself. Construction was easy enough for this 50 year old woman to do it with help only positioning the top.
The desk only has one cable management outlet, so getting power into the left side is an issue. Also, hiding the cables for the monitor and the speakers that sit on top of the desk was a problem. The one hole for cables was only to get the keyboard and mouse attached in the drawer. The drawer is not wide enough to house the keyboard and mouse side by side, but you can pull the mouse forward and type with the keyboard set back a bit. I resolved the issue of the cable management by getting desk grommets from Lowe's and drilling one hole in the top center of the desk and one in the bottom of the left cabinet. I can store a power strip in the cabinet, running its cable out through the bottom hole. My lamp, speakers, and monitor all feed through the desktop grommet into the original hole in the side of the left cabinet.
This is a beautiful addition to my office and since I needed a keyboard tray to alleviate tendonitis, I think it will work very well in the long run. My husband's concern was the heat that may build up in the computer compartment. I'll have to keep an eye on that.

Winsome Wood Secretary Desk, Walnut Review

(More customer reviews)Nice solid wood, well-cut, relatively easy to assemble. One piece had a small chip in it, but that was easily fixed with some latex wood filler. The small bottle of glue shipped with the page was dry, however, so make sure you have some on hand (a little bit is needed for the drawer assembly). The drawer itself doesn't roll like most drawers, but rather just rests in a hole between the large cabinet and the desk surface. Color is a little less reddish in reality.

(More customer reviews)In the age of pressboard and particle wood, it's rare to find solid wood furniture that's affordable for average incomes. But this is the real deal...I received the desk in a timely fashion, in excellent condition, with very easy assembly (just had to screw on the legs), and it looks just as gorgeous as the photo.
I ended up having to email customer service about the file rods, which seemed too long to insert without scratching the wood. They responded promptly and courteously with a specific person to call. WThat person, Richard, was very friendly and patient and talked me through the process of trying to remove the drawer. When my ignorance won out, Richard very kindly offered to send different rods that might be easier for me to insert. Imagine that...he wasn't responding to a defect in the product, but to my own personal difficulty with assembly!
A couple things to note...the hand carved pulls are a bit shallow for my tastes, but they function fine. Also, the dividers in the drop down section are not part of the actual desk, but a separate part. In all, this is a great statement piece that's worth every penny in quality and functionality, with exceptional customer service to boot.

Classic Antique Black Finish Fold-Down Secretary Desk with Hutch Review

(More customer reviews)We bought this unit after looking around for something like this for over a year. We wanted a place for our kids to use my laptop without disappearing into their rooms and being on the internet instead of doing homework. Also, the way that the desk is situated, I can see the screen at most angles. This unit is great as it's in our great room near our dining room table and looks like a hutch with the glass doors, but when folded down, becomes a very roomy student desk. The way that the fold-down is supported is very strong and well made and will not weaken with use, unlike some of the chain or metal hinge styles. In the lower cabinets we have put a smaller wireless printer/copier, so we are really pleased and our system is working out very well.
