We wanted a place for our kids to use my laptop without disappearing into their rooms and being on the internet instead of doing homework. Also, the way that the desk is situated, I can see the screen at most angles. This unit is great as it's in our great room near our dining room table and looks like a hutch with the glass doors, but when folded down, becomes a very roomy student desk. The way that the fold-down is supported is very strong and well made and will not weaken with use, unlike some of the chain or metal hinge styles. In the lower cabinets we have put a smaller wireless printer/copier, so we are really pleased and our system is working out very well.
