SteelSeries QcK Mini Gaming Mouse Pad (Black) Review

SteelSeries QcK Mini Gaming Mouse Pad (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my first SteelSeries (AKA Icemat) mouse pad. SteelSeries makes a variety of mouse pads and this is one of the few they make that is made of cloth.
I was fed up and sick and tired of my laser mouse making my wooden desks dirty, so I decided I DO need a mouse pad. After curiously researching about top of the line mouse pads (just to see if there were such a thing) the SteelSeries brand came up and I became very much interested.
Despite its name, the Qck Mini is a little bigger than your average "freebie" mouse pad most people use. I was willing to go with one of their more expensive hard options (aluminum, glass, et cetera) but because they only sell them in large sizes, I decided to settle on the cloth version.
The mouse pad comes rolled up in a tube. It takes about a day or so of use to get the pad fully flat because of that, but it's really not a big deal or anything to worry over. The mouse pad is extremely nice to look at in person because of the uniform jet black in contrast with SteelSeries serious white logo. Makes a great complement to your overall computer setup if looks are at all a factor.
I use the Logitech G9 Laser Mouse in conjunction with the mouse pad and it glides left to right, top to bottom, very well. The pad is just a tad small so sometimes I have to pick up the mouse and place it on the other side when I'm moving across large screens but it's really rare. The size is fine for your everyday needs, but for those working on really big screens you may want to go with a bigger pad. I chose the Mini because my setup is a small desk for a tiny 11.1" laptop so I couldn't afford the extra room nor really needed it for the screen size.
The pad does collect some dust and particles fairly frequently but all you have to really do is wipe across with your hands every once in a while and you got yourself a clean pad again.
I'm very happy with my SteelSeries mousepad and look forward to trying out their more expensive options down the road (some sell for upwards of $50!). I purchased it directly from the company in Denmark. I consider this a top of the line mousepad for its class and size, and I love how it looks. Recommended for those who want a small and sexy mouse pad with no worry about your mouse going crazy on you or losing any control. But is it worth the extra money compared to your generic 99 cent mouse pad? Probably not for most people; but hey, what's an extra $10 extra or so for this bad boy? I'd buy it again.

3M Mouse Pad with Gel Wrist Rest, Daisy Design (MW308DS) Review

3M Mouse Pad with Gel Wrist Rest, Daisy Design (MW308DS)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I usually use a mouse pad with a wrist rest (say that three times fast) and it really keeps my hand and wrist comfortable all day. This pad is different than my nylon covered one; it is a clear, plastic with a very pleasing softness. The pad has a special finish underneath that sticks to your desk and won't slide. You can press your wrist against the pad, the mouse pad stays in place and it's easier to move the mouse around. I am not entirely delighted with the magenta color scheme and daisies--I have a black desk with leather and stainless steel mesh accessories so it's a bit frou-frou for me but the pad itself is heavenly to use. If you want to rest your wrist as you use a computer all day, I have to say, this is one comfy mouse pad.

Fellowes Memory Foam Mouse Pad/Wrist Rest- Black (9176501) Review

Fellowes Memory Foam Mouse Pad/Wrist Rest- Black (9176501)

This mouse pad is very comfortable. It is firm enough to keep it from permanently losing its shape yet it conforms to your wrist nicely. If you are buying this because you think it is going to feel like a soft memory foam pillow you will be disappointed. The purpose of this mouse pad is to provide support, if it was really soft it would not do that.
I now have both a gel mouse pad and this memory foam one. I do slightly prefer the memory foam over the gel but they are not that much different when it comes to comfort.

Logitech Portable Lapdesk N315 Review

Logitech Portable Lapdesk N315
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Sometimes simple is better. This is a very simple, portable and well-designed lapdesk that performs it's job well as an extra barrier between the lap and a notebook, laptop or netbook. The lapdesk has a mouse pad built into it that can be slid in and out. The lapdesk is covered in a silicone-like material that helps to keep a laptop in place and is also easy to clean.
This Logitech item is well made and does well in securing a 15" (maximum) laptop and helping to dissipate heat. I am giving it 5 stars for a simple, usable and durable design and functionality. Please keep in mind that this is not meant as a laptop cooling device but is only meant to be used as a stabilizing and heat shielding device on one's lap.
Update: I have now used the lapdesk with the mousepad extension and found one huge ergonomic design flaw that led me to sore nerves in my wrist and carples. There is an edge that extends around the mouse pad that is raised. When mousing, your wrist will run into it and after some time of mousing could get sore and irritated. If you are a person that intends to use this part of the lapdesk a lot, think twice. I think a better design would incorporate a curve at the top and bottom. I understand that this edge is probably functional in it's ability to keep the mouse within the boundaries of the mousepad. Some design change would be helpful to preserve tender wrists or those people who will use the mousepad as a regular thing. For the moment, I am using my Smart Glove Wrist Support , Medium along with the lapdesk to save my wrist.
Ergonomically, it could use a bit of work on the mousepad design. Otherwise, I recommend this lapdesk.

My wife and I do a lot of computer gaming. One of the problems of where our computer's are located is that the room is in a front porch area of the house that can get pretty cold in winter. I picked one of these up for her last Christmas and she really enjoys it. I may buy her another one for her other hand that rests on a nostromo n52. I've thought about buying them for myself as well but I usually don't get that cold.

Fellowes 91741 Gel Wrist Rest and Mouse Pad - Graphite/Platinum Review

Fellowes 91741 Gel Wrist Rest and Mouse Pad - Graphite/Platinum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought one of these back around late '94 or early '95, and I'm still using it now in mid-'06 (11 to 12 years - wow!). I thought this model went off the market years ago, but I guess not.
After several years of use, the pad accumulated quite a bit crud. However, the pad really traps the crud, such that if you look at the bottom of my mouse, the feet have absolutely no dirt around them, whereas mice feet tend to scrape up stuff on most pads and certainly on a desk. Since my mouse stays clean and the crud doesn't affect the optical tracking, I've just not had enough incentive to clean it and so I haven't.
Aside from the dirt, the pad itself shows very little wear. This really surprises me given how heavy a user I am. Also, the gel pad shows virtually no wear. There are only two slight negatives that I can think of:
1) When I purchased the pad, it had a sort of oily film on the underside of the gel pad, like a lubricant. Not sure what it was for--perhaps a conditioning agent for the rubber--but it's still there after all these years. You can actually turn the gel pad over and draw in the oil. However, I've never tried to clean it, and in fact have always kept the pad in its place except for pulling it on rare occasion to see if the oil is still there. (Not sure where I expect it to go, but heh...) In use, you would never know it's there and you never come into contact with it, so even if you leave it, as I did, there's no danger of it getting on your cloths or anything.
2) The lycra finish on the gel pad is nice in that it doesn't make your wrist sweaty as a lot of gel pads can. And as I said above, it's very durable. However, you can very easily leave cosmetic scratches in it by, for example, fairly gently scratching a fingernail across the surface. These marks are not permanent, though. As far as I can tell, they're very similar to vacuum marks on carpet, and they can be rubbed out or they will simply disappear with a few hours' use. But if you handle the pad, you may look at it afterward to find it all "scratched" up, which is a bit disconcerting.
In one of the many (living quarters) moves I've made with it, the front part got cracked, but other than a crack being visible, it's not affected usability one iota.
I'd kinda like to replace it just for the sake of getting something new, but I'm having a hard time justifying it. I do think the pad requires a bit more effort to move the mouse compared to good modern pads, and that may become my incentive, but for the moment, at least, I'm sticking to it.
BTW, I'm a professional computer user who spends 10-20 hours per day (sometimes more) working on my computer, and with multiple big monitors, I use the mouse an awful lot. Thus, this pad has gotten *very* heavy use over the years. I've also had very few problems with my rather picky wrist, so it seems to a do a good job ergonomically, as well. (In case you're wondering, I use a Kinesis Contour ergonomic keyboard to handle the other half of general input. It's simply wonderful - I highly recommend it to any heavy computer user.)
