Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N550 Review

Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N550
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well, some reviews here give a bit of incorrect information. The USB cable actually connects easily to either side of a laptop computer. It is connected to the middle back of N550, but is tucked into a groove running to the right side. If you need it on the left side, just pull it out of the groove and run it in that direction--and tuck it into the groove running to the left.
Easy to connect. Just plug the cable into a USB port and it is ready to use. The control are simply, also. There is a volume up button, a volume down button, and a mute button.
More comfortable and stable than just having the laptop on your lap as the N550 has a wide, padded base. Really, this thing is made for smaller laptops than mine, and on those, I would guess the wider base would be even more helpful. Also, the base is thicker at the back, so it tilts the keyboard toward you a bit, which makes typing a little easier. There are also small tabs that flip up at the bottom to keep your computer from sliding off.
Keeps the heat off your leg. My laptop puts out lots of heat. This is actually pretty nice, as all that heat is now going through the space between the bottom of my computer and the top of the N550. This helps with cooling the computer also--instead of sitting on my leg and trapping heat in the computer.
Sound is good, not excellent, but much better than the tiny, built-in speakers in my laptop. My laptop covers about 75% of the speaker area. If your laptop is smaller, the speakers will probably sound better. The arrangement of the speakers could have been better so they would not be covered so easily by larger sized laptops.
Anyway, this product does exactly what it says it will do. I have no complaints. Well, maybe white isn't the best color choice, but other than that, no complaints. Will I use it? Well, no. I don't really care about sound, and my laptop is nearly as wide as this lapdesk. If I had a smaller laptop, this would be much more useful to me. So, why do I have it? Well, because it was given to me. It is a useful item, however, but only to those with small laptops or those who want better sound than their laptops provide.
Update 12-3-2010:
I bought my wife a laptop for Christmas. It is smaller than mine, having a 14" screen. My wife uses this lapdesk all the time. The width of the lapdesk allows a more stable sitting than just having her laptop sitting on her legs. Also, she likes having her laptop sitting a little higher on her lap, so the extra height of the lapdesk gives her that height. This is a much better option than a pillow, because the pillow would cover the ventilation area of the computer tending to overheat it, while the lapdesk allow air to circulate. It also tilts the laptop toward her, which she likes. Furthermore, since my wife is more concerned about sound than I am, the speakers are more valuable to her.
So she loves this thing, while I wouldn't even use it. Conclusion: for some people, this thing is obviously worth the price.

LapWorks Laptop Desk SwivlPad Review

LapWorks Laptop Desk SwivlPad
Average Reviews:

i am using this swivel pad under my macbook pro. my reason for buying was to facilitate client meetings. i am a designer and need to turn my laptop frequently for the client to see what changes i have made to a design. so i am glad that it is lightweight & slim--easy to fit into my laptop bag. however, i was expecting less friction. perhaps my notion of lazy susans with ball bearings that offer amazing smoothness clouded my expectations. this is not a ball bearing system, it's teflon that rubs together. so there is definitely drag. i've had better turning results using the cloth coasters on my kitchen table.
also, since it IS slim, a drawback i see is that it doesn't offer much space between the laptop and table (just over 1/8") for cooling purposes. i will use this turn table for client meetings, but i will still use my stationary laptop stand for longer use.

To keep things short this is an excellent desk. It does everything that is claimed it does. It is comfortable and simple to use. It is good for your legs (they stay cool) and it is good for the computer (it stays cool too with the fan vents not being blocked). If you spend a lot of time using your notebook computer - this little desk is a must. It even fits in my brief case so I can take it with me. Buy this desk.

Kensington Lift-off Portable Notebook Computer Cooling Stand - 60149 Review

Kensington Lift-off Portable Notebook Computer Cooling Stand - 60149
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I looked at about 8 different cooling stands all over the net until I narrowed it down to this one and something called the iLap, which was over 3 times more expensive than this one. My primary criteria for the stand was that it be able to be used while lying down flat on my back not just while sitting at a table/desk or upright on my lap. Another criteria was that it keep my clothing from getting hot from the laptop but that it not have to use one of my USB ports or electricity to power a fan like some of the cooling stands did. And lastly that it fit my 13.3" MacBook. Both Kensington and iLap fit all of this criteria. I ordered this one from Amazon and the iLap from the Apple Store. Both had near 5 star reviews.
The Kensington arrived about 3 days later and I began using it immediately. My primary worries turned out not to be issues when I opened the box and acutually was able to see the product. Those worries concerned two issues. 1. That the laptop would not really be cooler because it would touch the base of the stand which appeared to be a flat sheet of V shaped plastic. The unit actually has a large square hole on the top side to allow air to flow to the laptop base. 2. The laptop would slip around since there didn't seem to be anything to hold it in place (the iLap had a removable suede cushioned lip to hold the computer in place). Again this was unfounded because the same large square hole in the top side had a rubber (or rubber like anyway) ring all the way around it which holds the laptop in place. As a bonus it also fit my 15" Dell laptop. Both the 13.3" and the 15" laptops hang over the sides of the stand but that's not an issue. And the unit can easily be used while laying down in bed without raising the laptop too high or requiring me to place my hands at a weird uncomfortable angle in order to type or use the trackpad.
On the other hand the iLap arrived a day latter and was totally unusable. The removable suede cushion on the iLap required me to place my hands high above the laptop in a really awkward position in order to use the keyboard while lying down and using it without the cushion so I could position my hands comfortably resulted in the laptop not being stable and sliding all over the place. Additionally there was no opening in the iLap to allow air circulation although the stand was made out of aluminum with sand-blasted and silver anodized finish.
Bottom line I kept this Kensington stand (and I'm using it right now) and sent the iLap back for a refund.
I highly recommend this stand. And if it turns out not to be too durable as some have hypothesized and only lasts a year that will cost less than a nickel a day and I will just buy another one. However I don't believe this is going to happen.

I was leary of purchasing this over other products when I looked at it - but the reviews and price were both amazing. IT IS WONDERFUL! I use it with Intelligels® GENII Soft Foam **Laptop Computer** Wrist Rest and my wrist pain has gone away almost completely. I am a Lit grad student so I have to type A LOT!

My Place Cozy Deluxe Personal Workstation w/ Built In Cushion Review

My Place Cozy Deluxe Personal Workstation w/ Built In Cushion
Average Reviews:

I was looking for something that I could put my laptop on when using it on the bed or on the couch, and this product is fine for that. I paid $25 for it - it was overpriced, and I see it's gone down since I bought it. I think it's still over-priced though. From the picture, it appeared to have some type of indent where the laptop would go - it doesn't. It also looks like you could fit your laptop, a cup, and use the pencil holder, too. You can't, unless your laptop is some type of mini one. Mine is average to small sized, and covers up both the cup holder and the pencil holder. I didn't care about the lamp, so don't know if it's helpful or not - I don't need it, so haven't bought batteries for it.
I guess what matters is that it serves my purposes - I really didn't need a cup-holder or pencil holder, but I do think the picture misrepresents it. It does what I wanted it for - keeps the laptop and heat off of me, and the soft pillow under it is nice - it's comfortable on my lap. It gives me the flat surface I need to use it on the bed, too.
I do think it's cheaply made, and over-priced. I'd say $10 would be a fair price for this item. It's really the first thing I've bought from Amazon that I've been disappointed in - both the quality and the price, but, as I said, it does what I needed it for so I'm not totally disappointed. Just be aware that it's not quite the "cozy place" it looks like - it will hold your laptop, and nothing else.

LapGear Student LapDesk Review

LapGear Student LapDesk
Average Reviews:

This is a piece of plastic with a flat-ish beanbag (small white styrofoam beads) on the bottom. For a couple of Lincolns, you have a simple little laptop desk. Works nicely in bed, on the couch, etc. Pretty light, very basic.
For writing, maybe it's not so good as there is a little ridge that frames the plastic top, around 1mm, that may dig into your arm, or at least be enough to irritate or annoy you... also, there's not enough space to rest your forearm anyway.. plus(!) the texture of the top surface isn't good for writing on a single sheet.
So, good for laptop/netbook, not so good for writing or anything else that you would want to rest your forearms on it for.
Note that it's way big for the average netbook. Actually, it's probably big enough for a 17 inch laptop! I wish it was the same size as a netbook, but that's not the product's fault!

Foldable Cooler Fan Notebook Laptop Table Portable Bed Tray Book Stand Review

Foldable Cooler Fan Notebook Laptop Table Portable Bed Tray Book Stand
Average Reviews:

I have a wooden version of this, bought already long before these plastic models came out (having that one extra leg attachment too) providing you with more subtle angle changes than mine. I've made some triangle blocks to make up the difference but that's besides the point. For this review, I just wanted to express my solidarity in-with this approach to sporting a laptop, if your like me stuck using a Recliner to work from. I wouldn't have it any other way than something like this; the heat involved and the weight, no matter how small, is intolerable after even an hour having anything sit directly on your lap (I'm sure you well know, if you're considering this product). The only thing I would recommend you pay attention to! Is the width of your recliner (if that's where you're going to use it) and the width of the Book Stand...
