It shows as it is in the picture and comfortably fits our desk top and large flat screen monitor. You will need more room, though if you have a printer or other accessories with your desk top (though if you have a lap top, it should be fine).
If you're wondering about the color, it is just a shade above black, but darker than how I would describe espresso. It went well with a shelf I had from IKEA that was described as espresso. It is a flat finish (vs. wood grainy like some pieces).
Assembly is incredibly quick and easy. I did it myself in less than 10 minutes. The desk is plenty sturdy. If you like the look and are looking for the color I described, then go for it.
