Vantage Corner Desk Review

My wife and I have had this desk for 3 years now. We bought it from a national office supply chain store for $140 and it wasn't even worth that much. Let me explain why...
Pros:
1) Cheaper than a real wood desk of similar size
2) Looks appealing to the eye once assembled
3) Plenty of drawer and surface space for the average home office
4) Directions are easy to understand and follow
Cons:
1) Incredibly HEAVY. Once you put it together, I hope you never have to move it. If you do, you must almost completely disassemble it. If you try moving it as one piece, even to a different spot in the room, you WILL break it. Either the assembly screws will snap, or the particleboard pieces themselves will crack/break.
2) A cheap paper "wood" pattern covers the whole thing. If you don't use a coaster EVERY time you place a drink on it, it WILL warp and degrade the surface. Also, a mouse pad is required when computing. Otherwise, the natural oils and/or sweat from your hand will cause the surface to deteriorate and warp as well.
3) The top piece curves out toward the user, which may be uncomfortable for some people who like to scoot up to the desk and keep their keyboard on top instead of using the sliding tray. It forces you to sit back farther than you may like, making the monitor harder to see at a distance. If you have a beer gut (which I don't), I would imagine it would be even more uncomfortable.
4) The space on the left where you are supposed to put your computer tower is too small to accommodate many modern cases. Also, if your mouse and keyboard cords aren't a mile long or have extensions, they will have a hard time reaching from the desk surface down to the tower.
5) Finally (and probably most importantly), you should NOT store your tower in the dedicated space, even if it fits. Heat is like Kryptonite to a computer, and placing it in a confined space that's enclosed on 5 sides and has zero air circulation is NOT a wise idea, particularly if you have a high-end machine that produces more heat than your average system. We use this compartment to store blank media, printing paper and other miscellaneous things and have our tower located to the right of the desk (not under it) so that it gets proper air circulation.
When we saw this desk assembled in the store, it looked quite impressive and seemed well built. However, let me just say that when we move next month, this thing will NOT be coming with us. I'll be taking the time and effort to build a new desk out of REAL wood for us to enjoy.
I hope this review helped you in your decision.
