Computer USB 14 LED Flex Reading Desk Light 3 AA, 8307 Review

(More customer reviews)I let computer turn light on and off so less wear and tear on likely cheap power switch. No batteries in unit yet and I suspect that it doesn't intelligently switch between batteries and USB cable. I have it aimed at white wall behind desk so it essentially brightens up a dark corner; dark when power-hungry fluorescent ceiling lights are off, but nowhere near the light output of the fluorescents. Can easily write phone messages. I understand that blue hue to the white light indicates cheap / low quality LEDs, but doesn't bother me. Quarter inch gooseneck, roughly eight inches long, is probably fragile. So I question how long it would last if unit was regularly carried around in backpack, for example. You can easily handle the head with it's 14 LEDs, even after unit has been on all day. LEDs convert energy mostly to light, not heat. If you're in a dormitory situation, this unit may be a good, late-night compromise for getting a few things done while roommate sleeps, although not bright enough if you've got a lot of book reading to do, IMO.
Also, it seemed to be only unit that accommodates multiple power sources without taking up a possibly scarce traditional power plug slot; USB 2 power a good idea. I gave it five stars for that reason and because at seven dollars (sale price) it was cheaper than most LED bulbs that are screw-in replacements for incandescent lights; arguably disposable. But will see how long it lasts. Hopefully for years.

It does not have the cheapy grid like reflector to cover the bulb, but I say why spend 35.00 more to get that crappy feature. I put them side by side and they are the same!!!!!

(More customer reviews)This lamp is a huge joke. It's too short to really illuminate an area larger than the size of a DVD disc. I work in an office where I like to keep the lights low but want my desk lit up nicely. I have a Fenix flashlight that produces twice as much light as this one. Amazingly cheap-looking, too. The two bars look like someone chopped off antennas from old cars-- they weren't even straight. One was pulled slightly to the left, which gave a lopsided appearance... The head was also sideways.
If you're looking for a seriously cheap lamp and don't care what others around you think, get this... but don't expect it to light up anything except the sheet of paper right under it. I'm not exaggerating with that one.
The finishes are also varied, too. Base on sides is plastic. Top of base is brushed steel. Poles are car antennas. Top of head is grey plastic. Bottom part of head is reflective foil-ish material.
Avoid. Continue your search.

Normande Lighting 13W Daylight Spectrum Desk Lamp. 13.5" High with a Black Painted Finish. Review

(More customer reviews)This little lamp is both attractive and effective. It comes with a compact fluorescent tube that puts out a very bright, white light - although there's about a half-second delay after you hit the switch. The styling is clean and contemporary, and the lamp does not tip over even when you extend the "arm" forward as far as it will go. However, the whole thing is made of plastic, and feels kind of flimsy. The adjustable tensioner that keeps the arm in position has to be tightened frequently - easy to do, but still - and the translucent plastic shield that covers the fluorescent tube is held in place with tiny little plastic tabs. So, 4 stars overall - good design, plenty of light, kind of a cheap feel to it.

Black Modern LED Mini Desk Light - USB or Battery Power Review

(More customer reviews)I love this little light! I was hesitant to try it since I couldn't find any reviews about it, but I am very pleased with it's light output.
PROS:
*It's bright enough to read by. I compared it to another little USB light I bought on Amazon (the Ultra USB Notebook Light) which has only one bulb. That one give you a good little spotlight, but just in a focused spot, which might be good for lighting your keyboard. This light gives a good flood of light over the whole work area, and as I said, is strong enough to read by.
*The light is white and not blue like LEDs can be sometimes.
*I loved that you have the choice of powering it through the USB, or putting 3 AAA batteries in it to power it that way. I suspect you could also use a wall AC adapter, but I haven't tried that yet. I also don't yet know how long the batteries last.
CONS:
*The only problem with it is, even with batteries in it, it has a tendency to want to tip forward. To me that's not too big of a deal since I could readjust it's center of gravity (move the head around) and it would stop trying to tip. I suppose you could add a weight to the back to help this too.
Overall, I recommend this light if you want an inexpensive light that's pretty small, plugs into USB port, and has multiple uses thanks to the batteries so you can take it places (like camping).

(More customer reviews)I've seen this kind of lamp advertised on office supplies online stores and they go anywhere from 2x to 3x the price of this lamp. This makes the lamp a good deal for this particular type. I've found cheaper lamps for about $20, but the arm on those cheapos doesn't stay in its intended position and the knobs don't do anything. The build on this lamp appears to be of good quality. Almost all parts are made of steel or some other metal. I was going to purchase this off of amazon, but I found out that there is a Lamps Plus store near where I live so I went there in person to check it out. The arm on the display model worked rather well and so does the one I have now. The main downside I've seen so far is that you can only get this in white. One last thing is that the one I purchased included both the circular fluorescent and incadescent bulbs.
