Amazon was great. We ordered and the box arrived without any signs of damage. We started to unpack it and my wife noticed that an edge had broken off the top table. The particle board at the broken area was flaking badly which made it unacceptable as a new product. Alright, transport problems happen. We took pictures and decided to return to amazon.
After talking it over, we decided that to continue to build the table since the size was perfect and the finish looked okay. Our plan was to contact the manufacturer for a new top and/or talk to Amazon to replace one with a broken edge. A few seconds later we got to the smaller top and one side literally fell off before we even touched it! The side has split as a result of the wood screws the manufacturer used to connect the side to the top. This was no damage but rather very,very cheap construction. We saw that the side was basically pressed cardboard. Gack! Other side was also starting to split but had not yet separated.
That settled it. This product is awful. I'm sad to see that a Washington State product is of such poor quality. (We live in Washington State.) It aggravating because the size is perfect for our needs and the product fit our room. Since the table is narrow, I was concerned about stability. The idea was to use earthquake fasteners to snug it to the wall as I was planning on putting a very expensive monitor on it, a Dell U3011. I definitely did not want the monitor to fall! In reading the Amazon reviews prior to purchasing, some reviewers had noted that the smaller table can fall when pulled out too far as it only has two legs. Okay, I could live with that as it would only hold a keyboard and mouse.
Our options: No question that the product had to go back for a refund. We verified this with Amazon customer service before purchasing and were impressed by how easy it was to get an RMA. Okay, we can chance buying furniture again from Amazon. Other options, maybe we can find a woodworking friend to build us a similar table to the winsome Wood Kendall Computer Desk for not too much and I can finish it. Great idea from Kendall, very very cheap construction.
